Style: Fruity and Smoky
Rating: ☆ [Recommended]
Nose:
Fragrant pineapples and nashi pears carrying a decent dose of iodine and barbecue seasoning. Green grass threading in between, red chilli edges. Glimmering orange citrus beaming through as the head notes dissipate. Acrylic, light oak shavings and Jamón layering underneath. Finish with more smoky water and citrus confectioneries towards the end.
Palate:
More composed and tranquility than expected on the palate. Oranges and pineapples have further crystallised into a purer and sweeter form. The grip of peat smoke has slightly loosen, however it also feels deeper and heavier which then latches on the chocolate oak below. Pear drops, cilantro and mint barbecue rub. The gentle glow from the red chilli spices unlock more citrus gummies and iodine blots. Green grass and malt breathing and wavering gently in the background.
Finish:
A slightly bitter finish as the oak converges at the back - espresso and coffee jelly. Citrus echoes with a light maritime touch.
Thoughts:
A pleasant and surprisingly complete Moine Bunnahabhain. Although Bunnahabhain does not have the heaviest spirit, this expression focuses on the wonderful harmony of fruits (mostly citrus) and peat smoke; Layerings are neat with decent depth, making it comprehensible, comfortable and delicious. It has been a while since I have a Moine, perhaps this is a timely reminder on how good it can be!
