Laphroaig 10 Years Old from the 1980s (Importato for Genova)

Style: Fragrant and Round

Rating: ☆ [Recommended]

Nose:

Fragrant tropical fruits infused nicely with peat, light floral tea. Reminds me of the recent Bowmore, in a quite refined way. Honey and round sweetness. Smoke and the drier side of the dram sits underneath. Subtle maritime, confectionary notes, rather silky aroma at the back.

Palate:

Stone fruits shining with elegant fragrance. Peat dusting lightly over it. Smoke and medicinal touches on the subtle side, but has a decent depth. Feathery texture, white flower brushes in the mid-palate. Chocolate latte and more delicate peat coming through towards the end.

Finish:

Light smoked bacon, flower petals linger and shrouding smoke for quite a while.

Thoughts:

Wow! Very, very different to the current Laphroaigs! The fruitiness is more profound back then and the peat smoke is more subtle. It feels closer to the current Bowmores than the current Laphroaig. Smooth texture, flavours are nicely integrated, rich and round. I do feel there are some older components involved in this. If the current Laphroaig 10 is like Rock and Roll, this older Laphroaig 10 is like smooth, nice Jazz.
