Silver Seal “Whisky is Nature” Series Glenburgie 1989 25 Years Old

Style: Sweet and Creamy
Rating: ☆☆ [Highly Recommended]
Nose:
Fat toffees dropping into vanilla cream. Icy peppermint slices through maple syrup and honeycomb sweetness, unveiling the sawdust-laden tropical fruits at the core of the aroma. Some virgin oak influence, or am I just imagining things? Mozzarella cheese and sour plums held up nicely by ringing black peppercorn. Finishes with a milk chocolate tail.
Palate:
Delicious chocolate pudding and crème brulee serving up, coconut cream, dark cherries and blackcurrants dressed on top, garnished prettily with a pinch of mint. Mmmm, lip-smacking liquid dessert! Love it. Methylated spirit hitting the overtones, followed by a second round of dessert, egg custard and a mini rice pudding layering on a lower level. Oak comes in, tobacco leaves, black liquorice and a big sip of flat white to finish.
Finish:
Tobacco leaves lingers, another brush of peppermints paves way for the return of red fruits. Now it feels like sherry cask. Ample red currants raining down onto a black forest cake. Finish with traces of white cream. Quite nice.
Thoughts:
When I first tried liqueur chocolates (chocolate filled with various kind of spirits) years ago, I didn’t like it, because honestly, the liquid inside it is generally horrible. Now, this Glenburgie tastes like what a perfect liqueur chocolate should taste like, albeit in whisky form. Silky chocolate dazzles with lip-smacking sweetness, while the refined spirit gives you a good buzz. Technical-wise it might not reach two stars territory, but I really dig this profile so much that I wager I can finish this bottle in one night. Highly recommended, especially if you love chocolate...
