Teeling 1991 Aged 28 Years Bottled Exclusively for Three Rivers Tokyo

Style: Sweet and Elegant
Rating: ☆☆ [Highly Recommended]
Nose:
Light spiritus entrance, followed by some wonderful signature Irish tropical fruits - The widest spectrum of mangoes, from raw green all the way to overripe yellow. Passionfruit gummies, smallest amount of matcha powder dusted on sakura sencha. White peaches and papaya with a hint of lemongrass, nectarine jam spreading thinly on white bread. Honey malt and barley, the aroma and texture in perfect balance. A gentle pepper-seasoned oak tail wrapping it up. Amazing.
Palate:
Less sharp and structural than the nose, a bit disappointed as the nose was incredible. Tropical fruits and yellow fruit boiling gently with green herbs and spices, peppermint, camphor and cinnamon bark. A layer of cedarwood oak arrives early and shrouds over the mid-palate. Mangoes and white fruits, texture is almost jammy at times, light white jasmine touches patch around the core. The fruitiness gradually opens up as passionfruit and banana split notes begin to shine through. Sencha steaming, barley and taro, a mini-spark of spice towards the end.
Finish:
Fruit salad and green herbs beaming, a long and gentle tropical fruits finish.
Thoughts:
Another Teeling from this famous vintage, and the quality of this one is no exception. "Irish" tropical fruits notes at its finest, with the rum cask accentuates and amplifies it, creating a delicate and elegant sweetness that is so unique and delicious. However, judging by this expression, I worry this batch of Teeling is starting to reach the other side of the maturation peak, with the oak begins to overpower part of the spirit, again, I might be too picky. Can they reach 30? We will see, but this one is still excellent.
